What is K3RNEL?

K3RNEL is an MMORPG with a focus on player decisions, often with permanent impact on the world around you. Players will explore the land, unearth valuable resources, craft items, construct buildings, establish towns, and form kingdoms.

Combat is particularly interesting compared to other MMORPGs, due to the use of an immersive 1st person camera.

Players will create a character which is uniquely their own through the vocation system, which provides a mix of combat and non-combat skills for characters to unlock. Player skill is an important part of doing well, and usually trumps progression. Many activities in the game allow the player to choose the difficulty -- and optimal advancement is attained only by accomplishing difficult tasks.

Villages will be able to establish laws to govern their populace, forge treaties with neighboring villages, and wage war to conquer their enemies. Villages must be wary of bandits and invading hordes that threaten their lands.

K3RNEL is a world of steam, swords, muskets, technology and magic. Simple magic is common and harnessed by common folk to assist with everyday tasks. More powerful spells require years of training to employ, and such training has thousands of years of tradition behind it. By contrast, only recently have new technologies like gunpowder and steam power been discovered – so their applications are only now being discovered. The most industrious players will be able to craft massive airships which travel the sky.

Who is K3RNEL for?

K3RNEL is for players who want an interesting, fun world to live in. While many game elements are intended simulate a virtual world, they will also be designed as fun activities: as games. This ensures that the player who chooses to be a farmer doesn’t suffer the mundane repetition associated with farming in real life. Instead, he experiences varied and fun gameplay!

New features in K3RNEL strive to achieve the most amount of fun gameplay with the least amount of complication. Like Chess, the depth of gameplay in K3RNEL comes not from individual aspects of play being complicated but rather from many simple systems combining to form a deep and engaging whole.
